An Endangered Species in India....

This post is about the PCO's [Public Call Office]..
Everybody might have seen the board STD ISD PCO!!..
I had read and article about PCO's today in TOI. The number of PCOs in India is getting reduced day by day..In 90's it was the connecting point for us especially for Keralites to the Gulf countries..

In July 29, 1914 transcontinental telephone service began with a telephone conversation between Thomas A. Watson in San Francisco and Alexander Graham Bell in New York City..
It was the starting of a new era by which the world became more smaller:)..Each and evryone is one dial away!!..

I still remember the day at which first PCO started in my village..That was the first time I saw a phone outside films.. And almost nobody knows how to make a call:)..Whenever one want to make a call, he/she will go and ask the operator to dial the number and then operator will give the receiver to the person..and these people will say as louder as possible in phone..especially when the call is to gulf countries..The simple reason for speaking louder is there is Arabian sea in between Kerala and Gulf..So sound has to travel through sea to reach there naa??!!..:)

These PCO's actually made a silent revolution in India. Government gave all kinds of support for handicapped people to start PCOs. It was a big help for them..

Then there comes the 'coin boxes'. If U have one rupee coin u can make a local call..
But Keralites were very intelligent.We made calls using 20ps and 25ps!!..In my 11th and 12th days I made lot of calls for 25ps!..

Those days are gone so fastly...Now mobile phones rules the telecom world..Even 2 year old child knows how to use mobile!!..According to United Nations, in India there are more number of mobile phones than toilets!![NDTV 3-4 months back]

Some memories never get faded and thus the PCOs will always remain in our mind....

A short story

Dedicated to the Kerala/Indian Youth whose vision is getting changed by the inception of bad ideas..

July 1st.
Calicut Beach.

The day at which the Kerala Cultural festival starts. From today onwards for the next 10 days it will be the days of enjoyment for Keralites.Lots of people from all over the world was assembled at the main stage for the inaugural function. The stage is ready for the arrival of the VIPs..

He was watching all those things from the roof top of a hotel near by the stage.He was waiting for this day for last 3-4 months.He is closely watching everyone especially security persons..He wants to make sure that nobody is going to find out the bomb which he planted on the roof of the stage!!

After 10 mins all VIPs are arrived and the functions is going to start. Then as usual some good looking girls came with flowers to greet the VIPs. Suddenly he noticed her among those girls!..He was shocked after seeing her..

She was his world in his college life..He just went back to his good old memories.He thought about those days he spent with her in college.Those evenings, he roamed with her in calicut beach.. Those rainy days, when they went together in a single umbrella..Everything flashed in his mind..

He can't kill her. He started wandering over the roof top of the hotel..The bomb is going to explode in next 20 mins.He can never forget her face and he dont want to give more sorrows to her..Suddenly he changed his mind and ran towards the stage. The security persons stopped him at the entrance. He tried his level best to enter inside. But he couldn't..At last he told them the truth about the bomb and ran towards the stage..Within seconds the security guards are able to clear off the stage..

Finally he reached at the stage. While deactivating the bomb, it exploded..
Hearing the explosion she tried to run back to the stage..But security persons din't allow her..From distance she was able to see him..

His eyes were looking at her..as if he want to say
"I love you more than my life...."

Kannada Swalpa Barthini!!..

It's all about my early days in Bangaluru..The garden city..
I came here last August and have been part of this city since then..

It's about my first Kannada Experience in this city.
So one day I was going with my friend in BMTC bus as part of my 'city roaming' session.
Then the conductor came into picture. I told him "two Majestic".Then his attention got deviated to something else and after a minute, he again came back to me..
Then he asked "Yeshtu?" Since I dont know it's meaning at that time I thought like even conductors in Bangaluru handle English pretty well. He asked me Yeshtu (It means How much!!) but I interpreted it as "Yes Two!!". I thought he was asking just to confirm the number of tickets.. Then I said "Yes, two"..He looked confused..and again asked Yeshtu?! and again I said "Yes,two Sir".. and finally I had to show with my fingers:).

That day I understood the meaning of "Yeshtu"..And I started learning Kannada..and it is still continuing..

Finally July 11!!..

It's July 11..

The world was eagerly waiting for this day..The day which is going to give us a new world champion!!..

This world cup is going to history by producing a new world champion and runenr up..

First world cup final without either Italy,Germany,Brazil or Argentina!!(Even though I am sad abt Argentina:(...It's the fact.. )

This world cup is going to history not jus bcos of the matches or bcos of the players..It's more than that..This world cup will be remembered on Paul-the octopus!!..


First world cup in which both the champions - Italy and Runner up - France went out in first round.
After 1950 Uruguay reached the semi finals of world cup!..:) Forlan's one man show and Saurez's hand ball against Ghana made them to reach upto semi..:)

First world cup in the history in which brothers played for two different countries..Boteng Bros..for Germany and Ghana!.. Most funny thing is that Both Germany and Ghana was in the same group and these two bros played agianst each other!..

First goal of the world cup was from the host country South Africa against Mexico.. It was from the boots of Shabalala!!..

First world cup in which Germany played with 10 non German origin players like Klose,Podolsky,Ozil, and the list goes on..:)

As usual in this world cup also England went back without doing anything..:(
People wil rememebr USA's Donovan Serbia's Vidik..Germany's Miller,Klose,Ozil..
Urugay's Forlan,Ghan's Gyan....as the best part of world cup..

And Christiano, Rooney, Pirlo, Henry, Rebery, Anelka -for scolding the coach- were worst part of this world cup..

And I wud like to mention about Vuvusula and AdidaS' Jubulani ball..The ball was came in such a big hype - like English and Italian team - But there was not much goals as expected!..
Brazil and Argentina's exit that was other big incident of this world cup..
In my opinion France was the worst team of this world cup and Germany was the best..

And last but not the least this world cup gave us two very good theme songs by Knaan and 'Waka Waka' Shakiraa....:)
And finally we have the finals today.. Netherlands Vs Spain.. Is it Sneijder or Villa going to raise the cup!?!?!..

World is waiting to see the new champion!..:)

Yes...tomoro June 11th..after 4 years waiting it's back to earth once again...
Tommorow onwards Jubulani is going to be the new world..
32 countries..700+ players...and one champion!! Football world cup is back in action from tomoro onwards..

Matches are happening in South Africa..and India is nowhere in the picture..still people especially from Kerala started cheering for their favourite teams..

some new generation online chicks are posting comments in buzz,twitter FB and all..

Far in Kerala if U go, U can see lots of flex boards, banners and people wearing jerseys to support their team..In Calicut, even people r playing football matches for raising a flex board of their team at centre of the street!..The one who win the match,they can put their teams flex board!!..That much is people's interest in world cup football..

There is no other place in this world, where people are making war of words..sometimes real fight also, for a country that has nothing to do with them!.

So tomoro onwards entire KERALA is going to South Africa!..
A time to forget all the political gimmicks and channel discussions.....

Dreaming abt a day at which we wil also play worldcup football....

First day at School..

Yes..again a June month..The month when school opens.I miss those days..

In Kerala schools reopened today after two months summer vacation.
The day in which around 4lakh new students of Kerala going to school..Some may become top of the world..Some wil fail..who knows who is going to be what!!..

Today while sitting idle in my room I jus thought abt my first day at school..:(
The day in which I joined 1st standard. It was a very rainy day.As evrybody knows Monsoon also reaches Kerala on the school reopening day to giv an awesome welcome to new kids..

As all new students, I also reached school by wearing uniform (blue trouser and white shirt) with new bag,slate, pencil umbrella and all..Now I realize that umbrella is the most beautiful thing for kids those days.Having a vistle on umbrella kids were making fun by vistling it.very colourful umbrellas.While walking in rain we revolve it and pour water on others..:)
SuryaMArk, Manmark,and St.George i.e todays Popy and Johns were the leading umbrella brands at that time..

I was sitting on last bench.Te truth is that I was sitting only in back benches till I finish 12th..I was an MBBS student always (Member of Back Bench Students)!..

Wen teacher was asking names,one child started crying..As a chorus to that the rest also started crying..All the 35-40 students of a class started crying!!Very interesting..Now I feel very funny thinking abt it..:D It was like that only for the next 2-3 days also.. Everyday there wil be one to start the cry as a leader and since v r good followers,V jus follow him/her..


Those were the best days of my life....

I am not making it a big post..
